I’m Shamon, heading Rainwood Resorts across Kerala. When I feel an energy and wish to take a break, I choose to spend time in nature. That’s what took me to Gavi Kerala—a quiet, green stretch that still feels untouched. The drive through the forest itself will slow you down and fill a sense of calm. Mist over the hills, the smell of wet earth, and the calm around the lake can keep you at absolute peace. You don’t find that often anymore.

At Rainwood Hotels, we try to bring that same calm into our stays. I always tell guests that the right itinerary makes all the difference—time to explore, but also time to do nothing. Our Gavi package at Spices Lap Resort, offered by Rainwood Hotels, reflects this: forest walks, boating, simple food, and time with the locals. Nothing overdone—just the rhythm of nature, the way it should be.
Gavi – A Place That Stays With You

Gavi is a dreamy natural escape. I didn’t really expect much at first, but wow… it’s something else. The forests are thick and green, the streams are sparkling, and it’s quiet in a way that makes you notice every little bird call. Apparently, it got popular after Alistair International listed it as one of India’s top eco-tourism spots. Honestly, I get it.
Wildlife here is incredible. Elephants stroll like they own the place. You can spot Nilgiri Tahr and Lion-tailed Macaque—totally rare stuff. Birdwatchers will love this place. Kingfishers, woodpeckers, and over 260 other species await them. The great pied hornbill was probably my favorite—it’s huge and kind of regal, like it knew it was being watched.
The best part? It all feels so real, untouched, and peaceful.
If you want to go, it’s in the Pathanamthitta district, 14 km from Vandiperiyar and 28 km from Kumily. Kottayam is the nearest railway station, and the airports are Madurai (140 km) or Cochin (190 km).
Best Time to Visit Gavi

Gavi is nice to visit at any time of the year. Every season can excite you. Monsoons make the forest lush and green, with small waterfalls dotting the landscape. Winters make it cool and calm, ideal for walking in the forest and spotting animals like elephants. Summer is sunny, making it perfect for boating or relaxing by the streams. Even autumn is lovely, with sunlight coming through the trees. Every season is beautiful. If I say, the best season depends on your interests!
Gavi Tourist Places: Explore, Trek & Relax
The forest, the hills, the water—it’s like nature takes a deep breath and you feel it too.
Gavi Reservoir and Kochupamba

One of my favorite things is boating. The Gavi Reservoir and Kochupamba are calm and peaceful. Early morning is the best time. The mist over the water looks magical. I enjoy sitting quietly and listening to the birds and the wind. Trust me, it feels amazing.
Anathode, Kochu Pampa, Pullumedu, or Kullar
If you like adventure, camping is perfect. You can camp at Anathode, Kochu Pampa, Pullumedu, or Kullar. Sleeping under the stars, hearing the forest at night, it’s something I always look forward to.

A small tip: carry a warm jacket, it gets cold at night even in summer.
Chenthamara Kokka, and Meenar

For hiking, there are so many cool spots. I love Valley View Point, Chenthamara Kokka, and Meenar. The view from the top is incredible. You can see the forest stretching for miles. I usually take a short break, drink some water, and just look around—it’s very calming.
Sabarimala View Point, Peer Hills, Parunthumpara, and Panchali Medu

You can also try forest treks, tea plantation walks, and other viewpoints like Sabarimala View Point, Peer Hills, Parunthumpara, and Panchali Medu. Each place has its own vibe. Walking through the forest slowly is better than rushing—it helps you notice little things like birds, flowers, or even deer.
KFDC forest programs
The KFDC forest programs are fun, too. They teach you about wildlife and conservation. I always tell people: join at least one. It’s simple but enjoyable, and it makes you feel closer to nature.

Honestly, my suggestion is: don’t try to do everything at once. Boating, trekking, camping—take your time. Gavi is about enjoying the calm and quiet. Bring a camera, but also bring patience. Simply sitting and watching the forest is an experience in itself. Stay at any top Gavi, Kerala, resort for the best experience.
